Abstract

On July 3, 2025, the Russian government announced its official recognition of Afghanistan’s Taliban regime, becoming the first and, to date, the only country to do so. Since the Taliban seized power in August 2021, the regime has not been officially recognized by any other state or international organization, including the United Nations, although countries such as China, Pakistan, and Iran maintain contacts and unofficial relations with the Taliban government.
