Abstract

This essay revisits “Nouvelles du Mexique,” a publication conceived, promoted, and realized by Jaime Torres Bodet from the Mexican embassy in France during the stage of his professional maturity. It appeared, in its initial stage, between 1955 and 1958 when he was assigned to that post. The research is based on documents from the Archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico and examines the publication as an expression of the boom in cultural magazines in the mid-20th century and their use as a diplomatic tool to promote Mexico’s image as a country of achievements in all areas. The publication serves this purpose by bringing together the best writers of the time and allowing us to appreciate the work of Mexican diplomacy and its actors.
