Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

Essays

Essays must be based on your own original research. It is essential that each proposal includes a sound analytical component and that it is unpublished, which implies that it has not been submitted to other publications. Each proposal received will be subject to a rigorous double-blind peer review process, carried out by experts appointed by the Editorial Committee. In this sense, each essay must be written clearly and coherently, adhering to grammar and syntax rules.

  • The length shall be between 8,000 - 10,000 words.
  • The title should not be longer than 20 words.
  • Abstracts: The author should send an abstract in the original language of the essay, plus another one in English –provided the article was written in a different language. For example, if the paper is submitted in French, the abstract should be sent in French, English and Spanish (3 abstracts). If the paper is originally in English, then the abstract should be submitted in English and Spanish (2 abstracts). In any case, the Editorial Committee will be happy to translate your abstract from English into Spanish. The length of each abstract should be less than 300 words and should not include abbreviations, acronyms or bibliographical citations. It is also necessary to incorporate 4 or 5 keywords.
  • Include a short bio no longer than 100 words.

  • If necessary, footnotes should only be explanatory, not bibliographic.
  • The bibliography shall be formatted using hanging indent and sorted in alphabetical order according to the last name of each author.

Chronicles

The goal of this section is to rigorously consider and analyze recent events that are relevant to the international system and society, such as summit meetings, international conferences, signing of treaties, breaking off diplomatic relations, initiation or follow-up of war activities, securitization exercises, paradiplomacy events, economic-political crises, social processes, among others. Beyond mere description, submissions must include a meticulous analysis that clearly identifies the background, actors involved, characteristics, and implications for the international scenario.

  • Each proposal must be original and unpublished.

Classic Authors

With the aim of disseminating ideas, theories and academic contributions about prominent authors in the discipline of International Relations, AMAG is open to receiving submissions that contribute to theoretical debate and dissemination. Thus, more than a description of the theoretical foundations of the discipline, this section promotes the analysis of classical and contemporary thinkers, through the contrasting of different ontological and epistemological approaches.

  • Each proposal must be unpublished and focused on a specific thinker. Comparative studies of two or three different thinkers will also be taken into account.
  • The length shall be between 5,000 - 8,000 words.
  • The title should not be longer than 20 words.
  • Abstracts: The author should send an abstract in the original language and additionally in English and Spanish. For example, if the paper is submitted in French, the abstract should be sent in French, English and Spanish (3 abstracts). If the paper is originally in English, then the abstract should be submitted in English and Spanish (2 abstracts). Bibliographic Essays

The purpose of this section is to encourage critical and constructive academic reviews of editorial works published during the last three years from the time of submission. The editorial novelties analyzed must have been published by prestigious institutions and contribute to the knowledge and analysis of the contemporary international scenario.

  • Each proposal must be original and unpublished.
  • The length shall be between 3,000 - 5,000 words.
  • The title shall be composed of the full name of the author(s), as well as the bibliographic data of the analyzed publication. e.g.:

Erik Ringmar: History of International Relations: a non-European perspective. Open Book Publishers. Cambridge. 2019. 206 pp.

  • Include a short bio no longer than 100 words.

Interview

This section aims to publish the transcript of an interview with outstanding scholars or decision-makers in the field of ​​International Relations, with the purpose of learning more about her/his personal perspective on the state of the art of our discipline.

  • Each interview transcript must be unpublished.
  • The title should not be longer than 20 words.
  • Include a short bio no longer than 100 words.
